House League Programs

The House-league is structured with learning the game, advancement and FUN in mind.

Blastball (U6)

Beginning with our Blastball/U6 division (5 & 6 yrs) we use the very popular "Blastball" program. This introductory level to the sport combines instructional games and activities with lots of FUN. Teams are kept small to allow maximum involvement by everyone. Games are generally once a week and include pre-game “Learn to Play” skill development sessions that are about 40 minutes in length, as adopted by Softball Canada.  Games follow that are about 40 minutes in length.  Players are required to have their own batting helmets and gloves at their Learn to Play sessions and at the games that follow.

Atom (U8)

The Atom/U8 age group (7 & 8 yrs) is split into 2 divisions, Modified and Regular.  In the Modified division the coach pitches to his/her own team while in the Regular division a player pitches to his/her own team.  In both divisions each batter is given 5 pitches to hit the ball. Both divisions use the "Learn to Play" program for pre-game skill development that is usually 40 minutes in length.  Games follow immediately after these sessions and are about 40 minutes in length.  Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove.

Mite (U10)

The Mite/U10 division (9 & 10 yrs) plays 3-pitch with players pitching to their team mates. This variation of the sport ensures that all players experience lots of offensive and defensive action. Teams generally play 1 game a week and have a pre-game practice session before each game.  The Mites have group practices on the weekend.  There is a weekday practice slot for those interested in the Select program, where the boys and the girls learn and play the fast pitch game.  Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove at their Learn to Play sessions and at the games that follow.

Squirt (U12)  Peewee/Novice (U14)  Bantam (U16) Midget (U18) Junior (U21)

Teams in the Squirt/U12 (11 & 12 yrs), PeeWee/Novice/U14 (13 & 14 yrs), Bantam/U16 (15 & 16 yrs), Midget/U18 (17 & 18 yrs.) and Junior/U21 (19 - 21 yrs) divisions play regulation fast-pitch softball. Again, teams play 1 or 2 games a week and have 1 practice a week.  Squirts have group or individual team practices usually on the weekend.  Peewee and Bantam divisions have shared team practice times available to them usually on the weekend. Midgets have shared team practice times during the week.  There is a weekday practice slot for those interested in the Select Squirt, Select Peewee/Novice, Select Bantam and Select Midget program.  Players are required to provide their own batting helmet and glove.

House-League games for most divisions are in the Orleans area.  House-League teams are formed just with players registered in the OAFA.  We attempt to form divisions of balanced teams to play each other.  Some divisions may have to be grouped together if the number of registrants is not sufficient to form 3 or 4 teams in a particular division.  Some divisions may also have the opportunity to play areas just outside Orleans as part of their House League schedule.
